Musicians Wanted

I want to add music to this radio station! Please forward this information to anyone you think can help.

Musicians, this is what you need to do to get your music on the station.

  1. Licensing is important. Please agree. If you just give me recordings without discussing licensing, then the license I emailed you will apply. I revise the license text from time to time, creating a new revision each time; see the  LIST OF LICENSES. A summary of the latest key points are below:
    • I am only licensed to use your recordings (“broadcast recordings”) for streaming on CMDR.
    • Your warrant these recordings are definitely unencumbered by restrictive agreements. In particular I can’t use recordings licensed to BMI or ASCAP.
    • I am flexible and you can renegotiate terms at any time.
    • Duration of license is unlimited unless you specify otherwise.
    • I will delete the broadcast recordings I have if the station ends service.
    • I can’t sublicense the broadcast recordings.
    • Other musicians in the recording may need to agree to—it depends on your arrangement with them.
  2. I need access to your music files.
    • You can email them as attachments.
    • You can use a cloud file sharing service and send me links: Bandcamp, Apple iCloud, Google Drive, Box, or Dropbox.
    • I cant pull them from streaming services such as Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, etc. I need files, not streams.
    • Any common audio formats are fine. Ive processed MP3, AIFF, M4A, WAV, FLAC, and OGG. I can probably process others.
    • Possibly tips on pronouncing names and words in the artist names and album names.
  3. The primary purpose of the service is to direct donations to you.
    • The purpose of this Internet radio service is to raise funds for musicians, and to bring the folk and traditional dance communities together during this drought of in-person dance time. Musicians are encouraged to set up their own means of collecting donations in conjunction with providing music for the service to play.
    • I will make a page for you on
      • I can post a brief text and photo you’d like to include. You want to encourage listeners to know more about you and contribute.
      • Please provide web links for your web site, donations services, storefronts, and so on. Donations must keep me out of the loop. I cannot be a part of the payment process.
  4. Here are some ideas for how to get money:

It’s helpful to you but not necessary to have your own website. Wix, Weeby, Square Space, and even your own Internet service provider are some ways to get a site up. (Facebook isn’t great because it is a walled-off zone from the rest of the web, but with some care you can designate some pages as public.)

Thank you for your support of the station. If someone does donate because they heard you here, please let me know!

Public Service Announcement: Musicians, you should join the “musicians” mailing list at I have used it to call for music on CDMR, and will probably use it for future publicity calls as well.
